1.. _process_statement_kernel:2 3Linux Kernel Enforcement Statement4----------------------------------5 6As developers of the Linux kernel, we have a keen interest in how our software7is used and how the license for our software is enforced. Compliance with the8reciprocal sharing obligations of GPL-2.0 is critical to the long-term9sustainability of our software and community.10 11Although there is a right to enforce the separate copyright interests in the12contributions made to our community, we share an interest in ensuring that13individual enforcement actions are conducted in a manner that benefits our14community and do not have an unintended negative impact on the health and15growth of our software ecosystem. In order to deter unhelpful enforcement16actions, we agree that it is in the best interests of our development17community to undertake the following commitment to users of the Linux kernel18on behalf of ourselves and any successors to our copyright interests:19 20 Notwithstanding the termination provisions of the GPL-2.0, we agree that21 it is in the best interests of our development community to adopt the22 following provisions of GPL-3.0 as additional permissions under our23 license with respect to any non-defensive assertion of rights under the24 license.25 26 However, if you cease all violation of this License, then your license27 from a particular copyright holder is reinstated (a) provisionally,28 unless and until the copyright holder explicitly and finally29 terminates your license, and (b) permanently, if the copyright holder30 fails to notify you of the violation by some reasonable means prior to31 60 days after the cessation.32 33 Moreover, your license from a particular copyright holder is34 reinstated permanently if the copyright holder notifies you of the35 violation by some reasonable means, this is the first time you have36 received notice of violation of this License (for any work) from that37 copyright holder, and you cure the violation prior to 30 days after38 your receipt of the notice.39 40Our intent in providing these assurances is to encourage more use of the41software. We want companies and individuals to use, modify and distribute42this software. We want to work with users in an open and transparent way to43eliminate any uncertainty about our expectations regarding compliance or44enforcement that might limit adoption of our software. We view legal action45as a last resort, to be initiated only when other community efforts have46failed to resolve the problem.47 48Finally, once a non-compliance issue is resolved, we hope the user will feel49welcome to join us in our efforts on this project. Working together, we will50be stronger.51 52Except where noted below, we speak only for ourselves, and not for any company53we might work for today, have in the past, or will in the future.54 55 - Laura Abbott56 - Bjorn Andersson (Linaro)57 - Andrea Arcangeli58 - Neil Armstrong59 - Jens Axboe60 - Pablo Neira Ayuso61 - Khalid Aziz62 - Ralf Baechle63 - Felipe Balbi64 - Arnd Bergmann65 - Ard Biesheuvel66 - Tim Bird67 - Paolo Bonzini68 - Christian Borntraeger69 - Mark Brown (Linaro)70 - Paul Burton71 - Javier Martinez Canillas72 - Rob Clark73 - Kees Cook (Google)74 - Jonathan Corbet75 - Dennis Dalessandro76 - Vivien Didelot (Savoir-faire Linux)77 - Hans de Goede78 - Mel Gorman (SUSE)79 - Sven Eckelmann80 - Alex Elder (Linaro)81 - Fabio Estevam82 - Larry Finger83 - Bhumika Goyal84 - Andy Gross85 - Juergen Gross86 - Shawn Guo87 - Ulf Hansson88 - Stephen Hemminger (Microsoft)89 - Tejun Heo90 - Rob Herring91 - Masami Hiramatsu92 - Michal Hocko93 - Simon Horman94 - Johan Hovold (Hovold Consulting AB)95 - Christophe JAILLET96 - Olof Johansson97 - Lee Jones (Linaro)98 - Heiner Kallweit99 - Srinivas Kandagatla100 - Jan Kara101 - Shuah Khan (Samsung)102 - David Kershner103 - Jaegeuk Kim104 - Namhyung Kim105 - Colin Ian King106 - Jeff Kirsher107 - Greg Kroah-Hartman (Linux Foundation)108 - Christian König109 - Vinod Koul110 - Krzysztof Kozlowski111 - Viresh Kumar112 - Aneesh Kumar K.V113 - Julia Lawall114 - Doug Ledford115 - Chuck Lever (Oracle)116 - Daniel Lezcano117 - Shaohua Li118 - Xin Long119 - Tony Luck120 - Catalin Marinas (Arm Ltd)121 - Mike Marshall122 - Chris Mason123 - Paul E.
