To13that end, we have a few ground rules that we ask people to adhere to:14 15* `be friendly and patient`_,16* `be welcoming`_,17* `be considerate`_,18* `be respectful`_,19* `be careful in the words that you choose and be kind to others`_, and20* `when we disagree, try to understand why`_.21 22This isn't an exhaustive list of things that you can't do. Rather, take it in23the spirit in which it's intended - a guide to make it easier to communicate24and participate in the community.25 26This code of conduct applies to all spaces managed by the LLVM project or The27LLVM Foundation. This includes Discord channels, mailing lists, bug trackers,28LLVM events such as the developer meetings and socials, and any other forums29created by the project that the community uses for communication. It applies to30all of your communication and conduct in these spaces, including emails, chats,31things you say, slides, videos, posters, signs, or even t-shirts you display in32these spaces.33 34In rare cases, violations of this code outside of these spaces may affect a 35person’s ability to participate within these spaces. Important examples 36include `sexual and gender-based violence`_, `hate crimes`_, and `hate speech`_. 37We do not conduct proactive research, but we have an obligation to respond 38to any reported concerns. We are not interested in evaluating severity, 39responding punitively, or holding people accountable. Both the relevance 40and our response is instead focused on how a person’s continued participation 41impacts the community’s safety, wellbeing, and inclusivity. We specifically 42prioritize remaining a welcoming community to victims as well as groups 43subjected to systemic marginalization or underrepresentation.44 45In addition, violations of this code outside these spaces may, in rare46cases, affect a person's ability to participate within them, when the conduct47amounts to an egregious violation of this code.48 49If you believe someone is violating the code of conduct, we ask that you report50it by emailing conduct@llvm.org. For more details please see the 51:doc:`Reporting Guide <ReportingGuide>`.52 53.. _be friendly and patient:54 55* **Be friendly and patient.**56 57.. _be welcoming:58 59* **Be welcoming.** We strive to be a community that welcomes and supports60 people of all backgrounds and identities. This includes, but is not limited61 to members of any race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, colour,62 immigration status, social and economic class, educational level, sex, sexual63 orientation, gender identity and expression, age, size, family status,64 political belief, religion or lack thereof, and mental and physical ability.65 66.. _be considerate:67 68* **Be considerate.** Your work will be used by other people, and you in turn69 will depend on the work of others. Any decision you take will affect users70 and colleagues, and you should take those consequences into account. Remember71 that we're a world-wide community, so you might not be communicating in72 someone else's primary language.73 74.. _be respectful:75 76* **Be respectful.** Not all of us will agree all the time, but disagreement is77 no excuse for poor behavior and poor manners. We might all experience some78 frustration now and then, but we cannot allow that frustration to turn into79 a personal attack. It's important to remember that a community where people80 feel uncomfortable or threatened is not a productive one. Members of the LLVM81 community should be respectful when dealing with other members as well as82 with people outside the LLVM community.83 84.. _be careful in the words that you choose and be kind to others:85 86* **Be careful in the words that you choose and be kind to others.** Do not87 insult or put down other participants. Harassment and other exclusionary88 behavior aren't acceptable. This includes, but is not limited to:89 90 * Violent threats or language directed against another person.91 * Discriminatory jokes and language.92 * Posting sexually explicit or violent material.93 * Posting (or threatening to post) other people's personally identifying94 information ("doxing").95 * Personal insults, especially those using racist or sexist terms.96 * Unwelcome sexual attention.97 * Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behavior.98 99 In general, if someone asks you to stop, then stop. Persisting in such100 behavior after being asked to stop is considered harassment.101 102.. _when we disagree, try to understand why:103 104* **When we disagree, try to understand why.** Disagreements, both social and105 technical, happen all the time and LLVM is no exception. It is important that106 we resolve disagreements and differing views constructively. Remember that107 we're different. The strength of LLVM comes from its varied community, people108 from a wide range of backgrounds. Different people have different109 perspectives on issues. Being unable to understand why someone holds110 a viewpoint doesn't mean that they're wrong. Don't forget that it is human to111 err and blaming each other doesn't get us anywhere. Instead, focus on helping112 to resolve issues and learning from mistakes.113 114Reporting115=========116 117If you believe someone is violating the code of conduct you can always report118it to the LLVM Foundation Code of Conduct Committee by emailing119conduct@llvm.org. All reports will be kept confidential. This isn't a public120list and only members of the advisory committee will receive the report. For121details on what to include in the report, please see the :doc:`Reporting Guide122<ReportingGuide>`.123 124If you believe anyone is in physical danger, please notify appropriate law125enforcement first. If you are unsure what law enforcement agency is126appropriate, please include this in your report and we will attempt to notify127them.128 129If the violation occurs at an event such as a Developer Meeting and requires130immediate attention, you can also reach out to any of the event organizers or131staff. Event organizers and staff will be prepared to handle the incident and132able to help. If you cannot find one of the organizers, the venue staff can133locate one for you. We will also post detailed contact information for specific134events as part of each events' information. In person reports will still be135kept confidential exactly as above, but also feel free to (anonymously if136needed) email conduct@llvm.org.137 138Bans139====140 141The code of conduct committee may decide to ban an individual from the142community for violating the code of conduct. The goal of a ban is to protect143community members from having to interact with people who are consistently not144respecting the code of conduct. Please refer to the145:doc:`Developer Policy<DeveloperPolicy>` section on Bans for how to handle146interactions with former community members. If you need further guidance,147please contact conduct@llvm.org.148 149Code of Conduct Committee150=========================151 152The committee will consist of a minimum of 5 members and members are asked to153serve at least a 1 year term. New committee members will be selected by the154current committee and the LLVM Foundation Board of Directors.155 156When responding to a Code of Conduct report, the committee follows the157following 158:doc:`Response Guide<ResponseGuide>`.159 160The current committee members are:161 162* Aaron Ballman (aaron.ballman\@llvm.org)163* Kristof Beyls (kristof.beyls\@llvm.org)164* David Blaikie (dblaikie\@llvm.org)165* Jonas Devlieghere (jdevlieghere\@llvm.org)166* Cyndy Ishida (cishida\@llvm.org)167* Tanya Lattner (tanyalattner\@llvm.org)168* Stella Stamenova (sstamenova\@llvm.org)169 170 171Transparency Reports172====================173 174* `July 15, 2025 <https://discourse.llvm.org/t/llvm-code-of-conduct-transparency-report-july-15-2024-july-15-2025/88622>`_175* `July 15, 2024 <https://discourse.llvm.org/t/llvm-code-of-conduct-transparency-report-july-15-2023-july-15-2024/82687>`_176* `July 15, 2023 <https://llvm.org/coc-reports/2023-07-15-report.html>`_177* `July 15, 2022 <https://llvm.org/coc-reports/2022-07-15-report.html>`_178* `April 28, 2022 <https://llvm.org/coc-reports/2022-04-28-report.html>`_179 180For details about what a Transparency Report is and what it contains, please see the :doc:`Response Guide<ResponseGuide>`.181 182Questions?183==========184 185If you have questions, please feel free to contact the LLVM Foundation Code of186Conduct Committee by emailing conduct@llvm.org.187 188Thanks!189=======190 191This text is based on the `Django Project`_ Code of Conduct, which is in turn192based on wording from the `Speak Up! project`_.193 194License195=======196 197All content on this page is licensed under a `Creative Commons Attribution 3.0198Unported License`_.199 200.. _Django Project: https://www.djangoproject.com/conduct/201.. _Speak Up! project: http://speakup.io/coc.html202.. _sexual and gender-based violence: https://hr.un.org/sites/hr.un.org/files/SEA%20Glossary%20%20%5BSecond%20Edition%20-%202017%5D%20-%20English_0.pdf203.. _hate crimes: https://hatecrime.osce.org204.. _hate speech: https://www.un.org/en/genocideprevention/documents/UN%20Strategy%20and%20Plan%20of%20Action%20on%20Hate%20Speech%2018%20June%20SYNOPSIS.pdf205.. _Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/206
