Files & images

Work with individual files or transfer a complete machine as an ext4 image.

Transfer a complete filesystem

Open a machine's snapshots page and download a backup as an .img file. Import that image into a repository you can write to. Imports preserve filesystem metadata, symlinks, and hard links, and publish the new live filesystem after preparation finishes.

Stop any instance using the destination's live filesystem before publishing an import. Keep the before-import backup enabled when replacing an existing machine. Fork a repository when you want a cloud copy without downloading its contents.

Work with files

Use the repository file browser to upload and download individual files. Its raw download links support partial downloads and resuming; obtain a fresh authorized link if a private link expires.

To edit files from a running Linux shell on your computer, use the Node launcher. The machine accesses its cloud filesystem through the same brintos.wasm client as the website.

Choose live or a backup

Live launches require write access and exclusive use. Backups are immutable and launch read-only. See version selection for the launch options.

Save changes and exit

In a Node machine console, press Ctrl-] to power off, flush filesystem changes, and release live. An exported ext4 image can also be used with the local image launcher.

Native mount client retired

The separate brintos FUSE client and its installers are retired. There is no host directory mount command. Use file uploads, ext4 import/export, or the shared Node launcher.
